01/22/15: New year, new yarns, new FOs.

If you received the customer email† we sent out on Monday, the much-anticipated arrival of Berroco Folio will be old news. Just in case it’s new news, 17 colors of Folio are now on our shelves. This superfine alpaca/rayon blend yarn is as luxurious as cashmere yet retails for just $7.50/219 yards. Folio is happy on a wide range of needle/hook sizes outside its DK gauge. The colors absolutely shine. Folio projects will drape and wrap beautifully.

A few of the patterns offered by Berroco for Folio: (l. to r.) Kita* and Iwi* by Emily Nora O’Neil, Iwo* by the Berroco Design Team.

I have Folio on my needles now for Moulin Rouge*, below left. Kirsten Kapur’s simple but elegant lace shawl is coming up as a 3 session class that begins Saturday, February 28. Another nice lacy choice for Folio would be Berroco’s free shawlette pattern Hantsuki, right.

Another new yarn is Panda Pearl, a brilliant blend of bamboo, merino, and silk. It’s another yarn that’s perfect to stitch now to wear through spring, summer, and fall. Jill chose Maim* by Lisa Mutch for her shop sample of Panda Pearl.

Maim has a distinctive and dainty godet edge produced by dropped stitches.

I knit a Mademoiselle C’s Present* cowl to show off our new self-striping Reggae Ombre from Schoppel Wolle. Reggae is a 100% wool unplied worsted that’s ever-so-slightly felted, so the resulting fabric stays smooth and soft. If you want to start making cowls now to give as presents later, just pick this easy pattern and Reggae.

Joan encouraged us one day to cut loose and make more samples of some of our “novelty” yarns. Together, we gathered up quite a collection, grouping them by color. She then volunteered to knit up this very boho chic self-fringing triangular shawl to showcase Trendsetter Dune and Cin Cin. An instant classic was created overnight. The pattern is free here in the shop if you’d like to play with yarn, too.

Suzanne was one of the lucky ones to get some of the last of our Filatura di Crosa Superior. She used this cashmere/silk/merino laceweight for a Churchmouse Mohair Bias Loop*.

Suzanne’s pick for her Piega* by Kristin Ford was Cascade Eco Cloud.

Here is Jane’s Esjan* by Stephen West in madelinetosh vintage.

Bonnie re-sized the #33 Heart Blanket* by Bonnie Franz to make a crib blanket and knit it up in squishy-soft Manos del Uruguay Maxima.

Mary Lou chose this stunning palette of Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend for the 7-Color Scarf*.

And if you don’t get our emails, why ever not? You’ll always be the first to get the scoop on all our classes, events, and sales. Send an email to list@goshyarnitshop.com or sign up on our website here.
