01/12/15: Yipes, stripes!

The first three FOs of the new year arrived with one thing in common – stripes!

Joan’s shawl is her own design using madelinetosh tosh vintage, stash yarn, and her basic recipe for a square shawl. If you’d like to experiment with shawl shaping formulas yourself, check out Derya Davenport’s 5 Basic Shawl Shapes Cheat Sheet. The rows of increases are a little easier to see, below.

Joan’s second FO is the Kenzie Shawl* by Stephen West, done in Hikoo Simplinatural. The project took about 1375 yards of yarn.

The merino, alpaca, and silk blend of Simplinatural produces great stitch definition along with luxurious softness.

Wanda blended several yarns from GYI – CEY Magnolia and Berroco Weekend DK and Maya – with stash yarns for her Stitch Sampler Shawl from On This Day Designs.

12.07.04This pattern would also work well with self-striping yarn. It’s clearly a great stash buster, much like our own shop pattern shown at right, Cowl of Many Colors*. If you have a couple of skeins of “special” yarn that you aren’t quite sure what to do with, bring them to the shop and let us help you create a palette of colors and textures for your own Stitch Sampler Shawl or Cowl of Many Colors.

*Patterns marked with an asterisk (*) are available at Gosh Yarn It!
