COLORMATIC COWL
Saturday, February 1; 1:00-3:30 pm

01.18.14.06The Colormatic Cowl by Michelle Hunter is fun for both novice and veteran color knitters. It was the October “Mystery” KAL project at Michelle’s website, knitpurlhunter.com, where the pattern is available for free. Sample is made in Kenzie by HiKoo. You will need 4 colors, one skein of each for a small version of the cowl and two of each for a larger size, which can be worn doubled. Have fun picking out colors. Techniques to be covered include the provisional cast on and Kitchener stitch. Please swatch before class if possible.
Supplies: copy of the Colormatic Cowl pattern, 4 colors of Kenzie yarn or approx. 160 yds. each of 4 colors of similar DK weight yarn, US 7 and US 8 16” circular needles, crochet hook, waste yarn, darning needle

BRIOCHE STITCH COWL

brioche-cowl-detail-600Brioche stitch creates a reversible rib pattern. Learn easy 2-color Brioche for this soft, warm cowl. Techniques to be covered include the provisional cast on and I-cord bind-off. The sample is knit in Manos del Uruguay Maxima. Pattern provided.

ESSENTIAL CAST ONs & BIND OFFs
Saturday, February 8; 1:00-2:30 pm

Learn a variety of cast ons and bind offs to use again and again so your knitting has best possible start and finish. Techniques to be covered include long-tail for both knits and purls, provisional, Old Norwegian, and cable cast-ons and Russian, sewn, and yarn over bind-offs, plus when (and when not) to use them.
Supplies: approx. 100 yds. worsted weight wool, US 8 needles, darning needle

MOEBIUS COWL

01.18.14.01The moebius cast on makes chic infinity cowls with a magical half twist, just one continuous edge, and no “wrong side.” Sample is made with two colors of Schulana Luxair. Choose either bulky or worsted weight yarn. Pattern provided.

BEADED CROCHET BRACELET
Saturday, February 22; 1:00-4:00 pm

01.18.14.02Learn the fun and interesting technique of bead crochet while creating a beautiful rope bracelet. You must already know the basics of crochet to take this class. By the end of the class, each student will have learned the basics of bead crochet and will have completed a portion of the project with enough instruction to finish it at home. Kits are available on a first-come, first served basis, and must be picked up in advance so that pre-class HOMEWORK can be completed.
Kit includes:
3 colors of 8/0 seed beads
1 spool Bead Cord in coordinating color
Decorative button or bead
Large eye beading needle
Tapestry needle (size 24)

Additional Supplies: size 1.50mm steel crochet hook (available at GYI), scissors, magnifying glasses (if needed), piece of felt or towel to use as work surface, mug or bowl to hold strung beads, medium safety pin

FINGERLESS MITTS ON DPNs

01.18.14.04After your first pair of cute garter stitch Marshmallow fingerless mitts, you will be a master of double pointed needles. This is an easy pattern that is sized for toddlers through adults. Sample is worked in Red Dog Wool.
Supplies: copy of the Marshmallow pattern, 90-200 yds. worsted weight yarn (see pattern for size requirements), US 7 DPNs, darning needle

TATU: Try A Toe Up Sock
3 Saturdays, March 1, 8 & 15; 1:30-2:30 pm

Class limited to 6 students
01.18.14.05Carolyn’s pattern TATU Sock is worked from toe to cuff on two circular needles. Choose between making an adult woman’s size TATU Sock in sport weight or a child’s size medium in fingering weight. The sport weight version is a free download on Ravelry. The multi-sized pattern for fingering weight will be provided. Techniques to be covered include Judy’s Magic Cast On and the Kitchener stitch. After this class, you will be able to knit toe up socks for everyone in the family!
Supplies: copy of sport weight TATU Sock pattern, approx. 300 yds. sport weight sock yarn, (2) US 3 24” circular needles or 225 yds. fingering weight sock yarn, (2) US 2 24” circular needles

CROCHET 101
Saturday, March 22, 10:30-11:30 am

Learn the fundamentals of crochet: foundation chain, single, and double crochet.
Supplies: approx. 100 yds. worsted weight wool yarn; crochet hook size H or I

KNITTING 101
Tuesdays, 2:00-4:00 pm
FREE
Learn to knit! Master the basics: how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. No purchase necessary. Plan to arrive between 2:00-4:00 pm for 30 minutes of free instruction. Knitting 101 is also available by private appointment.

GOSH YARN IT! CLASS POLICIES

  • Basic knitting skills are required for all our classes. You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. If you’d like help mastering the fundamentals before taking a class, drop in on a free Knitting 101 session (see above).
  • Unless otherwise noted, supplies are not included in class fees.
  • In-stock supplies for all classes may be purchased by class participants at a 10% discount either in advance or on the day of the first class. (We really appreciate your buying all your class supplies from us!)
  • Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Payment is due when you sign-up. We accept reservations by telephone with payment by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.
  • A pre-paid class fee will only be refunded if at least 5 days advance notice is given that you will not be attending.  If fewer than 5 days notice is given, a refund will only be made if we are able to fill your space in the class with another student.   An un-refunded class fee is transferable and may be used to register for future classes.
  • Gosh Yarn It! reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes that do not meet the required minimum enrollment of 3 students.  A missed individual session of a class cannot be refunded or made up (but we’ll be happy to try to help you catch-up on what you missed).  Any class cancelled due to inclement weather will be re-scheduled.
