ESSENTIAL CAST-ONS & BIND-OFFS

Learn a variety of cast-ons and bind-offs you’ll use again and again to give your knitting the best possible start and finish. Learn long-tail for both knits and purls, provisional, Old Norwegian, and cable cast-ons and Russian, sewn, 3-needle, and yarnover bind-offs, plus when to use them. More techniques will be covered as time allows with handouts provided.

BIG & LITTLE SOCKS

Learn toe-up sock knitting using your favorite method for knitting in the round (double points, Magic Loop, or 2 circulars) by making your choice of an oversized Christmas stocking size sock on bulky yarn or a baby/ornament size sock on worsted yarn. Learn the Magic Cast-on for a great seamless start and how to work the heel turn with wrap and turn short rows. Class fee includes a copy of both sock patterns. Instructor will demonstrate with 2 circular needle method.
Necessary skills: Prior experience required with knitting in the round on double point, Magic Loop, or 2 circular needles.
Supplies: approx. 200 yds. bulky or 100 yds. worsted weight yarn; either US 9 (for bulky) or US 7 (for worsted) needles for technique of your choice

It’s time you knit a sweater! Top down construction makes it easy; there’s little or no finishing and you can fit as you go. Learn top down basics by practicing on a baby pullover in size 6 mos. (If you don’t have a baby to knit for, you can leave your finished sweater with us to be shared with a children’s charity.)

Feel like your knitting skills are stuck in neutral? Become a better, more confident knitter with Building Blocks. In this brilliant sequential curriculum you’ll learn essential knitting skills and concepts. Use the 12 sampler blocks as dishcloths, pillow covers, or seam them together for baby blankets or an afghan. Knit/purl patterns, increases and decreases, cables, slip stitches, chart reading, and more are covered. Building Blocks creator Michelle Hunter even offers online video tutorials for all techniques. Learn to knit for free! Master the basics of how to cast-on, knit, purl, and bind-off. No advance registration required and no purchase necessary. Please plan to arrive between 2-3 o’clock on a Tuesday afternoon to spend about a half hour with us. You’re welcome to attend more than one Knitting 101 lesson.

- Basic knitting skills are required for all our classes. You must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. If you’d like help mastering the fundamentals before taking a class, drop in on a free Knitting 101 session (see above).
- Unless otherwise noted, supplies are not included in class fees.
- In-stock supplies for all classes may be purchased by class participants at a 10% discount either in advance or on the day of the first class. (We really appreciate your buying all your class supplies from us!)
- Classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. Payment is due when you sign-up. We accept reservations by telephone with payment by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.
- A pre-paid class fee will only be refunded if at least 5 days advance notice is given that you will not be attending. If fewer than 5 days notice is given, a refund will only be made if we are able to fill your space in the class with another student. An un-refunded class fee is transferable and may be used to register for future classes.
- Class size, unless otherwise noted is 3-6 students. Gosh Yarn It! reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes that do not meet the required minimum enrollment. A missed individual session of a class cannot be refunded or made up (but we’ll be happy to try to help you catch-up on what you missed). Any class cancelled due to inclement weather will be re-scheduled.
