Appledore Knit-along

The stunning ruffled Appledore Shawl from Classic Elite’s pattern book High Seas was chosen for a June/July KAL (knit-along) here at the shop. It is made with Firefly, a linen/viscose blend, the star of our recent Classic Elite Yarn Tasting. We’ve brought in some great colors of Firefly, with exotic names like Delos, Sicily, and Corsica.  I’m used to shawls having small and large versions, but this pattern is actually sized, so it can take 6, 8, or 9 balls.

What makes this KAL different is that all participants completing the project by July 31 will be entered in a drawing for a basket packed with Classic Elite yarn, patterns, and other knitterly things, a $100 value.  Come see our stock of Firefly soon.  It won’t last long.  Sign up for our Appledore Shawl KAL before June 1 to be eligible to win Classic Elite’s generous prize donation.  We’ll schedule a special CEY KAL sit & knit time, which will be announced after the sign-up deadline.

And the name? Appledore Island, ME, is the largest of the Isles of Shoals (but still only about a half mile square) off the coast of Portsmouth, NH.  It was formerly known as Hog Island.  “Hog Island Shawl” wouldn’t have been a bad name, but I’m relieved Classic Elite didn’t choose the name of another island among the Isles of Shoals: “Smuttynose Shawl” just doesn’t have a nice ring to it.
